The CVT chain has adjacent rows of chain link plates linked continuously with cradle type pressure pieces (two per link). On the CVT chain, the cradle type pressure pieces are “jammed” between the taper pulleys of the Variator as the taper pulleys are pressed toward one another.
The torque is transmitted only by the frictional force between the ends of the cradle type pressure pieces and the contact faces of the taper pulleys.
